Here's the random factoid that gets me:
The suspect [...] was in the bathroom taking a shower when the homeowner returned to the house Monday night [...].(emphasis mine)
So, not only did this guy break into the house, he stayed around long enough to take a shower and then called the police because the homeowner might have a gun.
If it had been Texas or Arizona, "might have" would have been "did have".
